Choose Yourself First: Remember Your Worth
For in this time and in this place, it is important to understand that disappointment is a part of the human experience. Each of you will encounter moments when your expectations are not met, when your heart feels overlooked, or when those you love do not show up for you in the ways you had hoped.
But know this: disappointment is not a reflection of your worth. It is an experience from which you can learn, grow, and gain greater understanding of yourself and what you truly desire.
There will be times when it seems that no one is available to you. Times when you feel there is no one to turn to, no one to meet your needs, and no one who truly sees you.
For all desire to feel loved, wanted, appreciated, and chosen. And when these desires are not fulfilled, it can seem as though love, appreciation, and belonging do not exist for you.
But beloved, know that this is not true.
You are loved. You are wanted. You are appreciated. You are chosen.
Yet there is something you must first understand: You must choose yourself.
When you choose yourself first, you begin to recognize that your happiness, your peace, and your worth are not determined by the actions or inactions of another.
You no longer allow someone else's choices to define how you see yourself.
Choosing yourself does not mean that disappointment will never come. It means that disappointment no longer has the power to diminish who you are.
When you choose yourself, you take ownership of your happiness. You establish the standards by which you wish to live, the love you are willing to receive, and the value you place upon yourself.
You begin to understand that no one else can determine your worth, for that has already been established within you.
You are not here to depend entirely upon others to fulfill your needs, validate your existence, or create your happiness.
You are here to recognize the love that already exists within you and to honor yourself enough to nurture it.
So choose you.
Choose your happiness.
Choose your peace.
Choose to celebrate yourself, even when others fail to celebrate you in the ways you desire.
Do not allow this moment of disappointment to overshadow the beauty of who you are or the life that is unfolding before you.
For when you continue forward, honoring yourself and living in the fullness of who you are, you release the influence of those who believe their actions have the power to determine your happiness.
Let them wonder why you continue to shine.
Let them see that your joy does not disappear because they failed to contribute to it.
Be you. Do you. Love you.
And remember, beloved, you are worthy of being celebrated, appreciated, cherished, and chosen.
Not because of what someone else does for you, but simply because of who you are.
For we all love you.
And with this, we leave you in love, light, and peace.
Soulful Reflection
In what areas of your life have you allowed the actions, expectations, or approval of others to determine your happiness or sense of worth? And what would choosing yourself first look like in those moments?
Take a moment to sit with this question. Choosing yourself does not mean loving others less. It means remembering that your happiness, peace, and self-worth deserve the same love and attention you so freely give to others.
